Established in 1963 by Sheikh Rashid, former Ruler of Dubai, Dubai English Speaking School DESS is the oldest British school in The United Arab Emirates. It is a non-profit establishment that once was the place where children of the Royal Family of Dubai were taught.
At first, DESS was a one-class school taught by parents and a British Officer and located in the upstairs room of a villa where expatriate workers were housed. However, and about four years later, the school was moved to its present site.
As Dubai grew and expanded, the school also had to cater to this grow by adding more classrooms and other facilities including a Gymnasium and a swimming pool and others.
Andrew Gibbs, principle of Dubai English Speaking School DESS and sister school Dubai English Speaking Collage DESC, believes that great schools are derived from great staff. Thus, he is keen to find great teachers and build dynamic teams of educators and school leaders.
