The Ministry of Economy emphasizes the need to adjust food prices before Ramadan

The Ministry of Economy and the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi confirmed the need to provide food commodities with its current prices during Ramadan without exploiting and cheating the consumer. The result of making these violations will be irregularities edited by inspection campaigns during the holy month days.

Making this decision has been after holding a coordination meeting between the Ministry of Economy and the Department of Economic Development with the vegetables and fruits shop owners in the emirate, at the invitation of trade protection management in ” Abu Dhabi Business Centre “, in order to warn them and to emphasize the importance of providing all the necessary goods with the appropriate and normal prices.

Hashim Al Nuaimi, the Director of the consumer Protection Administration has stressed on the importance of coordination and agreement with the ministry and the department on the obstacles that traders can face to provide food commodities, and the department permanent pursuit to monitor the market continuously, as well as the importance of suppliers commitment to the actual and appropriate prices, and compliance with regulations and laws that guarantee the achievement of the meeting targets to provide goods in the market and controlling prices.

While shop owners said that some of the obstacles they face is the fact that the price of some goods is high in the supplier country, in addition to the limited storage warehouses.

The ministry stressed that the traders and suppliers of leafy vegetables have to start the supply early with controlling prices during the Ramadan month. It also will work hard to organize several inspection campaigns on a daily basis at many shops  in various state markets during the month of Ramadan, in cooperation with the concerned authorities in each emirate as part of the ministry’s program to protect consumers and maintain the stability of markets especially during the festive period.
