Described as “a true haven” for artists and art lovers alike, The Majlis Gallery is a meeting place for creative minds. Opened in 1989 as an art gallery, it was set with a mission to promote the works of artists of international standing, and soon, it was able to evolve into one of premier fine art galleries of Dubai.
The Majlis Gallery houses numerous solo and group exhibitions, and it has been responsible for introducing many of the regions finest artists to the cultural stage. It quickly has earned its reputation for enduring quality and a reputation for representing the best of local and international artists in a welcoming and unique environment.
History of this place dates back to 1976, when Alison Collins first came to Dubai. She arrived to work as an interior designer in the city, but she soon fell in love with the country, especially with the architecture and the ambiance of the old windtower houses in the Bastakia.
Two years later, and with the help of two Iranian tea importers and an Egyptian curtain maker, “Alison and her husband secured the lease on villa number 19, Bastakia, Bur Dubai”.
Over the next ten years, Alison and her husband raised their three young children and hosted many “informal soirees in their ‘majlis’, hence the name, introducing artists both professional and amateur to a somewhat culturally bereft community”.
