Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding “SMCCU”, is a non-profit organisation promotes awareness about the traditions, customs and rich culture of Dubai. The SMCCU works with the aim of creating awareness about the rich and varied cultural heritage of Dubai and to build a cross-cultural understanding between locals and visitors.
Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, saw the need to educate expatriates about the traditions and customs of the UAE. His vision steered to the formation of The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) in 1998.
Located in a traditional Wind Tower House in the heart of the historic Al Fahidi District in Bur Dubai, the centre offers a range of enrichment activities through its award winning programmes.
It operates under the banner of “Open Doors. Open Minds.” The SMCCU strives to raise awareness and demystify the local culture, customs and religion of the United Arab Emirates. With an overall objective to improve cross-cultural understanding and communication between locals and guests, visiting and residing across the UAE are invited to learn more about the local culture in Dubai through the Award Winning Programmes.
The institution invites guests to take part in their full schedule of activities, including a range of Arabic classes, heritage tours, and guided mosque visits.

The centre is open to the public:
Sun through Thurs 08:00 to 18:00 and Sat from 09:00 to 13:00.
The office staff is available from Sun to Thurs 09:00 to 17:00, and Sat 09:00 to 13:00.
