Located in the centre of the Al Ain, Qasr al Muwaiji is an impressive structure that has watched over the oasis for over a 100 years. It is the birthplace of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
This historical place was built in the early years of the 20th century, and was originally used as a diwan a council or seat of governance) and as a place for the community to congregate. After Sheikh Khalifa’s death, the fort passed to his son Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa.
Qasr Al Muwaiji has been restored and renewed, noting that the conservation team employed traditional methods and materials to renew Qasr al Muwaiji’s structure, and leaving as much as possible in place.
This diverse team of specialists has worked together to create a distinctive exhibition at Qasr al Muwaiji: respecting its past and preserving it for the future.
Within the courtyard of Qasr al Muwaiji, an elegant glass-walled space is set to welcome guests to the exhibition.
Restorations of the fort has created a place of learning, understanding and appreciation. Guests can can experience the historic buildings and impressive courtyard of the place, soaking up the atmosphere.
