On-Day Art Courses At Dubai Design Week

Dubai Design Week is an annual event/program held city-wide in ‘celebration of design’ encompassing culture, education and entertainment; and spanning multiple disciplines of design, from graphic and product design to architecture and industrial design. As part of the event, Dubai Design Week will be holding three on-day art courses/workshops, and here, we will briefly introduce you to them, noting that all of the three courses will be held at the end of this October, by The Royal College Of Art.

Interior Design Pop-Ups

Dubai Design Week

Led by Dr Harriet Harriss, Senior Tutor in Interior Design at the Royal College of Art, this one-day taught workshop will present the past, present and future of interior design pop-ups and examine the work of established designers as well as a recent RCA interior design student graduates.

This workshop will also invite participants to engage in a short pop-up design ‘hackathon’ – working in teams to propose pop-up solutions to specific spatial challenges. Each team will have an opportunity to present their designs to a jury comprised of designers and RCA tutors and students.

Curating Design

The workshop is led by Martina Margetts, Senior Tutor in Critical & Historical Studies at the Royal College of Art and a leading international specialist in craft and design.

This one-day workshop explains how to curate a design exhibition. The day includes an introductory talk illustrating a variety of design exhibitions; a detailed case study; and a series of practical exercises in small groups. The key stages in curatorial practice – theme, selection, location, budget, display, interpretation, audience, publicity – will be explored with constructive feedback at each stage.

The final session of the workshop will be informal presentations, with each group proposing a design exhibition.

Products For Spaces – Industrial Design

Products For Spaces - Industrial Design

This workshop will be led by Tim Rundle, a Design for Manufacture Tutor on the RCA’s Design Products program.
