FNC efforts for better medicine and drugs control
During its tenth meeting at the Council’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, the Federal National Council demanded both of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Ministry of Health to cooperate and make a continuous updating to the world anti-doping code (Wada) prohibited list of drugs and medical substances.
The council clarified how important is to provide adequate supervision of drug and medicine trade and in one hand, and of dispensing them in pharmacies and private clinics in the other hand.
The council also discussed protecting the society from drugs by recommending the General Authority for Regulating and Telecommunications Sector (TRA) to develop modern technology programs in order to ensure tracking drug dealer who do their deals electronically. It also urged TRA to start awareness programs that warns of drug’s health, psychological and social consequences.
Recommendations also included more establishment of rehabilitation and drugs treatment shelters in each state of UAE, ensuring that they should be provided with modern equipment needed.
One of the most important recommendations was the establishment of a national observatory that aims to create a true database at state level. The observatory will be inked to the Federal Council for Demographic Structure, and should include statistics on drug addicts, and addicts at rehabilitation centers, even those who have been treated.
Analyzing these statistics is important because it will help the council to discover the necessary social and psychological aspects to come up with the best anti-drug programs.
