Ras Al Khaimah most northern emirate enjoys a moderate, cool and refreshing climate. It is known to have cooler temperatures than its neighbouring emirates and is the destination of choice for many residents looking to escape the summer heat.
Believe it or not despite the climb in Mercury and heat turning up across the country, Ras Al Khaimah is at least 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the country.
Ras Al Khaimah is famous of Jebel Jais, it is the tallest mountain in the United Arab Emirates at about 1,910 m, with its highest point about 350 m east of the border between Oman and United Arab Emirates at an altitude of 1,925 m (6,315 feet)
The mountain peak recorded 31C during the day and 27 C in late afternoon, as opposed to 43C to 45C in other UAE areas in the third week of July.
CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAK TDA), Haitham Mattar, said “While visitors and residents are looking to escape the heat with indoor activities across other areas of the UAE, Jebel Jais offers the opportunity for travellers and residents looking for outdoor adventures and diverse scenery at significantly cooler temperatures than at sea level, and incredible views of the stunning Ras Al Khaimah landscape.”
Part of the Hajar mountain range, Jebel Jais is a popular location for bikers and sports car drivers, as the thrill of snaking their way up through the curvy roads between rocky hills is one of a kind in the UAE.
It hosts a number of sporting events including the GCC Hiking Challenge and the Ras Al Khaimah Mountain Festival.
