The Barber of Seville, or The Futile Precaution, is one of the great, ancient works of the musical genius: Gioachino Rossini. It is an “opera buffa”- Italian for “comic opera”, that was composed in 1816, and has proven to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music.
This 200 years old opera centres on the adventures of handsome young Count Almaviva as he courts the lovely Rosina in spite of her jealous guardian’s attempts to stop him. Of course, he would never have succeeded without the help of scheming barber, and jack-of-all-trades, Figaro!
Scholars has said that this opera of Rossini is of bright and smooth melodies that make you feel the opera’s story “flows freely”. He uses a technique named “Rossini Crescendo”, which is a unique method of composition to increase sound volume gradually in steps, exciting both orchestra and audience alike.
