His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was born on 11 March 1961. H.H. is Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the third son of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, ‘Father of the Nation’ and the first President of the UAE, and the brother of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
H.H. Sheikh Mohamed is married to Her Highness Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, and has four sons and five daughters: Sheikha Mariam, Sheikh Khaled, Sheikha Shamsa, Sheikh Diab, Sheikh Hamdan, Sheikha Fatima, Sheikha Shamma, Sheikh Zayed, and Sheikha Hassa.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received his early education at schools of Al Ain and Abu Dhabi until the age of 18. In 1979, he joined the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England, where he trained in armour, helicopter flying, tactical flying and paratroops.
By April 1979, and upon his graduation from collage, H.H. returned home to the UAE to join the Officers’ Training Course in Sharjah. He has held a number of positions in the UAE military, from that of Officer in the Amiri Guard (the UAE’s elite security force) and Pilot in the UAE Air Force, to his current role as Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Sheikh Mohamed also holds a number of political and economic positions at an Emirate level and a wider Federal level in the UAE. Moreover, H.H. Sfeikh Mohammed is actively engaged in several projects targeting to increase the welfare of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He has initiated projects in various areas, such as economic development, education and environmental protection.
